Steph and Laura’s Spring Recommendations

It is officially the 1st of September which means…HELLO SPRING!! We’re excited to start enjoying more hours of daylight (hopefully full of sunshine) and to workout without having to strip off multiple layers as we warm up.

In light of this season change, we chatted with our wonderful co-founders Steph and Laura about their top Spring recommendations. These recommendations are founded on the feelings which they elicit when consumed – a sense of awakening, lightness and comfort – just like Spring empowers lighter and brighter times at the conclusion of Winter. For many, this Winter has been exceptionally tough and isolating with various lockdowns imposed so we want to help you make these next few months a little brighter.

With Spring being the season in which things bloom, we hope these recommendations will inspire you to blossom yourself. We encourage you to lean into the elation and weightlessness that Spring brings and for it to motivate you to try something new. Whether it be listening to a new podcast or trying a new style of workout, let’s harness the energy coming from the knowledge that brighter times are coming.

What is your spring podcast pick?

STEPH:

Never Have We Ever – A Poddy run by Chessie King and her beautiful partner Mat, that they started when Chessie got pregnant. It’s raw, unfiltered and very funny. Highly recommend this poddy to any expecting mummas!

LAURA:

The Books That Changed My Life – this is a podcast on Listnr hosted by Michelle and Zara from Shameless and it is the most wholesome beautiful content that we all need in our lives right now. The guests speak through the books that have got them through the hardest times in their lives, have had the most impact on them and influence and the conversations have made me laugh, and cry. Disclaimer that I was very lucky to be a guest on this one but don’t feel like you listen to my ep, the other ones are great!!

What book would you recommend to sit, read and enjoy in the Spring sunshine?

STEPH:

Dear Motherhood by Emma Heaphy – A beautiful collection of poems and letters by Emma to different kinds of mummas. Honest, raw, beautiful and true.

LAURA:

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*** by Mark Manson – Anyone struggling with anxiety right now or with the fear of judgement from others, this book is such a great resource and reminder of the things that we should care about and how to care less about the things that don’t matter or serve us.

What TV has you hooked this Spring?

STEPH:

Nine Perfect Strangers – I was soooo excited for this show to finally be out as it’s one of my favourite books! It’s funny, dramatic, gripping and has incredible actors in it.

LAURA:

Ted Lasso – this show can be found on Apple and I know I have already used the word wholesome in this recommendation list, but I had to use it again as this show is just so damn, wholesome. Ted Lasso is a football coach from America who finds himself in a coaching role for a very big UK football (soccer) team. He sees the best in everyone, and I find consuming this show is like giving yourself a hug and a mood booster all in one.

What movie do you choose when you want to feel good?

STEPH:

Our Friend – It’s a tear jerker, but a really beautiful story. Heart breaking story line, but incredible acting and you will find yourself giggling too.Alternatively if you’re just looking for a comedy to get you smiling, my all time favourite movie is I Love You Man – If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend!!

LAURA:

The Intern – This is one of my all time favourite movies, I LOVE Anne Hathaway in this movie and it is such a feel good story. I highly recommend.

What is your go to Spring KIC recipe?

STEPH:

Mediterranean Chicken, Feta and Olive Tray Bake – This is one of my new favs that we have been having on rotation at home. It’s super easy to make and sooo delicious. It’s a good one for meal prepping for lunches too!

LAURA:

Pancake Tray Bake – I am absolutely loving our new Tasty Tuesday recipe drops and the Pancake Tray bakes is one of my favourites, ever. It is the perfect weekend breakfast which feels super special, and it is so easy to make.

Which KIC workout are you most excited to complete outside in the Spring sunshine?

STEPH:

Lower Body Domination (Cardio Pilates with Mari) – I LOVE this workout. It’s one of those classes that you could easily roll out of bed and do in your PJ’s, but don’t let me telling you that fool you! You will absolutely still feel the burn and get that heart rate up with this one!

LAURA:

Fighting Fit (with Danny) – I remember when we filmed this session it was so hard I did not think I would get through it, but I felt so proud of myself afterwards for getting through. I always go back to it when I want an intense workout and really want to challenge myself. I have done it quite a few times throughout lockdown as a way to start my day with a super energising workout.
